Frank Thomas' injury ruined 2001, and it continued to be a bad idea of having him the centerpiece of the lineup until 2005.

I agree somewhat, although a lot of 2004 was also just a huge hangover from 2001-2003. I do recall the Twins thing though. It was after Torii Hunter absolutely mauled Ben Davis at the plate. Ozzie wanted retaliation by way of Carlos Lee purposely sliding into...I think it was Luis Rivas at second. Lee failed miserably, despite having 60 pounds on Rivas. As Guillen put it: "We had a guy go into second base like his wife was turning a double play." Hilarious. Lee-larious, as it were.

Maybe I am just being stupid, but for me 2004 was a very important part of why we won in 2005. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't this the year when twins just f**#$ handed it to us in one of the home series and Ozzie just completely went nuts and pissed off with the guys on the team. Off went Mags and Lee, AJ came in, Dye had solidified as a sox player. Without experiences in 2004 we aren't going to WS in 05, no doubt in my mind.

I remember being so mad at that 04 team and happy with the changes and players that KW brought in to just remake/remove the softness in us. Bring on the grinders, win or die trying baby!

What made 2003 almost the worst year of the decade was what was happening on the north side. 2003 came very close to being The Sum Of All Fears.
