One perfect circle, that Scotty Pods.<\/li>\n<li>The Cubs lost six times as many playoff games as the Good Guys won.<\/li>\n<li>The Athletics released Frank Thomas to the custody of the Blue Jays, then welcomed him back to Oakland a mere six months later.<\/li>\n<li>The Tampa Bay Rays followed 96 losses with 97 wins and a pennant.<\/li>\n<li>Joe Crede, Juan Uribe, Tadahito Iguchi and all other reminders of winning a World Series left town.<\/li>\n<li>Andy Gonzalez made three errors in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/sports\/baseball\/2007-08-30-824361026_x.htm?csp=34\">same inning<\/a>. Three.<\/li>\n<li>Barry Bonds went from the starting lineup of the All-Star game to the unemployment line.<\/li>\n<li>Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Bobby Scales became the lone Cub even this grizzled writer would <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaythejoke.com\/index.php\/site\/comments\/839\/\">elect as an All-Star<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The mightiest front three of any rotation of the 90s became retired, hurt beyond repair, and a Red Sox farmhand.<\/li>\n<li>Jay Mariotti <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;ct=res&amp;cd=3&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Farchives.chicagotribune.com%2F2008%2Faug%2F27%2Fsports%2Fchi-27-mariotti-jayaug27&amp;ei=b_oRSt7EIoGcMq3sifsM&amp;usg=AFQjCNHmUJLVO3Emp9X7I8MwYml2YxBBfg\">lost himself<\/a> a fine job.<\/li>\n<li>The <em>Seattle Post-Intelligencer<\/em> ceased its print operation; the <em>Denver Rocky Mountain News<\/em> put a stop to the whole darn thing.<\/li>\n<li>Guns N&#8217; Roses finally released the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/11\/23\/arts\/music\/23pare.html\">seventeen-years-in-the-making<\/a> <em>Chinese Democracy<\/em> album.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So if all those things can happen, if that&#8217;s enough time for the stars can align for one man and shine a light on the crookedness of others, for a reclusive wizard can be exposed as but a moderately talented maniac and a combined 286 years of journalistic enterprise can come to a screeching halt, why can&#8217;t the Sox just beat the Blue Jays in Toronto already?
